We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to the mission field. Here’s my story…
I have known for a long time that God was calling me to do mission work. I always struggled with being called to the mission field because I had other plans for my life and I did not want to give those up because I thought I knew what was best for me. I learned differently though. About a year ago, my youth pastor asked me if I would go on a mission trip to Poland with my youth group the next summer. I told him I would think about it but it wasn’t really what I wanted to do so I planned on saying no. About a week later, we had a youth revival at my church. The speaker spoke on how we all have dreams but that God also has dreams for our lives. He talked about how God was so much more creative and bigger than we can even imagine, and that we should give up our own dreams for our lives and follow God’s dreams. This message really hit home with me, and I knew that God had given the speaker that message because I needed to hear it. That night, I told my youth pastor that I would go on the trip. That trip ended up being a life changing experience for me. One reason it was life changing is because I finally comitted my life to mission work because I realized that what I did on that trip is what I loved doing. It was also life changing because while in Poland, we worked with the Roma people. God really gave me compassion for the Roma people because of the unfair treatment they recieve from other cultures. After that trip, I wanted to take every oppertunity possible to do mission work. That’s when I started looking at AIM mission trips. When I read the description for the trip to Romania and saw that we would be working with the Roma people, I knew God wanted me to go on this trip. I am so excited to be going back to Europe and working with the Roma people!
